Jacob Forsythe Graduates from Western Technical College

2014 Dec 12

Jacob Forsythe, of La Crosse, graduated from Western Technical College in the Nursing-Associate Degree program.

Four graduates from the Practical Nursing program and 40 graduates from the Nursing-Associate Degree program were recognized during the traditional Pinning Ceremony. The service was held on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lunda Center on the La Crosse campus.

A time-honored tradition in the field of nursing dating back to the days of Florence Nightingale, the Pinning Ceremony is symbolic of a student nurses' transition into the profession. During the ceremony, students are recognized for their accomplishments and receive the nursing pin. Each school of nursing has a distinctive pin that nurses have traditionally worn to identify the school from which they graduated. Typically, the student is pinned by a family member or a nurse who has served as a mentor or role model during their education.

The ADN program at Western prepares students to become part of a team dedicated to managing and providing health care. Students are taught how to communicate effectively, collaborate with others to manage and coordinate health care and mobilize resources to promote, maintain and restore health. The PN program at Western prepares students to work as a member of a nursing team to observe, document and report, implement nursing measures and medical regimens, and assist in planning and evaluating nursing care.
